You Don’t Have to Navigate This Alone

In today’s fast-paced world, it's easy to feel disconnected—from others and even from ourselves. Daily tasks and responsibilities may keep piling on, leaving us little time to practice healthy self-care. This can lead to us feeling lost with how to restore a sense of balance within our emotional and mental well-being.

As your therapist, my goal is to empower you with tools and insights that foster independence and self-awareness. Together, we'll build a strong foundation for self-acceptance, inner peace, and stability, guiding you toward a more centered and fulfilling life.

One of my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou states, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” This is a helpful statement to guide you on your humbling path of self-discovery.

Embarking on this journey is a courageous act. Schedule a consultation with me today to help you navigate becoming your best self.

What to Expect in Therapy:

1. We plan for a phone call consultation (usually about 20 minutes) just to get to know each other a little better. I’ll ask you to share more about the anxiety, stress, or challenges you are experiencing lately. This is also a time frame I use to elaborate briefly on my style of therapy and explore if it is something that you’d be interested in. These phone calls are basically a vibe check to see if we’d be a good fit together!

I want to help you to see results of change and progress in your daily life!

2. Next, we schedule our first 60-minute session to get our therapy process started! This initial meeting is a big Q&A about all aspects of your life (current issues, family/social relationships, medical history, any trauma, and your joys in life, etc.). I help guide you through these different areas so it doesn’t feel overwhelming to unload in one session. Also, knowing that we will dive deeper into these aspects in future sessions as well.

3. The last aspect to highlight is that we are working to build a therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a safe, trusting space that you feel understood, supported, validated, and challenged in. The length of time we spend together is based on the progress we make in and out of sessions. I will bring new techniques and skills, help you get to the root of your issues, and work with you to build a solid foundation so that eventually you don’t need therapy anymore. Because that’s the ultimate goal right? To feel better.

Meet Makenzie

As a psychotherapist licensed in North Carolina and South Carolina, I specialize in holistic approaches to healing symptoms of anxiety or panic, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and alcohol abuse. Drawing from both personal experience and evidence-based, solution-focused practices, I tailor our sessions to meet your unique needs.

I believe that identifying and aligning with your core values can lead to significant life changes. Regularly reflecting on my own values—kindness, empathy, growth, and faith—helps me stay grounded and effective in our sessions. When I feel aligned with these values, I am being the best version of myself, which allows me to be more helpful to you.

Together, we will work to minimize anxious thoughts and feelings, establish boundaries to feel more in control of your life, and maintain consistency with healthy behaviors. By connecting with your authentic self, we can activate meaningful change and grow a sense of purpose and well-being.

My Approach

  • Holistic Healing

Holistic healing is therapy that addresses the whole person—the mind, body, and spirit—rather than focusing only on one specific symptom.

Together, we explore your issues with more context to see the interplay between mental and physical health, as well as spiritual and social well-being.

  • Anxiety Therapy

Seeking support for anxiety often involves challenging worry thoughts, feeling more connected within your body, and learning new ways to navigate stressful situations.

At the core of treating anxiety should be focusing on building trust in yourself again.

  • Compassion Focused

Compassion Focused Therapy aims to help individuals cultivate self-compassion and compassion for others, addressing issues such as shame, self-criticism, and emotional distress.

It is more than saying positive affirmations daily. This approach becomes your foundation for building self-acceptance.

  • Sober Curious

Therapy for alcohol & substance abuse includes understanding the reasons for drinking as a coping skill. It focuses on processing past traumas, mental health symptoms, and motivations for change.

Changing your relationship with alcohol or wanting to enter a life of recovery involves a lifestyle shift altogether.
